International Vulture Awareness Day! (IVAD)Tomorrow (September 1st) is International Vulture Awareness Day! It's a world wide day that celebrates the awesomeness that is the vulture. You can find their website here http://www.vultureday.org/2012/index.php to learn about the day, and see if any facilities near you are celebrating IVAD with special events. And to fill your vulture product needs Birdorable now has a complete selection of vultures on their website http://www.birdorable.com/vultures/ (because you know you want an apron with a turkey vulture on it that says 'I can has roadkill').  Still trying to get the Oregon Zoo to start celebrating it, because they do work with condors.
There are 23 species of vultures that consist of New World and Old World vultures. And of those 23 species, 11 are in some way threatened. The Indian vulture for example was one of the most widely spread vulture and now their population has been reduced by 99%. Threats to vultures include habitat destruction, persecution, poisoning direc
