The ShoutboxDear Citizens of the Shoutbox,I did make a promise to keep the shoutbox open. And I wish I were in a position to keep that promise. I don't personally maintain the shoutbox or have the knowledge of how to do so, I also don't maintain the system resources it uses, or the complications it introduces when network wide updates are made to different systems that effect the shoutbox. There are teams at deviantART like devious Technologies and Product that do this. And they area easily the most strained resources that deviantART has. These teams made a strong case to me this week in saying that usage of the shoutbox has decreased substantially from the hundreds of people who would flow in and out of it in years past, to now exactly 60.I will tell you that the number 60 is a very particular number to me and to deviantART. The number 60 was used and discussed in great detail during the design and build of the Groups system. When I heard the number, I knew the tides had turned and it was

A word for artists. Resources and moreFirst of all, I've been hella active lately and I hope you guys enjoy it, because there's more coming, lol. The reason is while I've always taken my career seriously, I committed too many mistakes in my path, may you learn from it and avoid it. After I got out art school, I started teaching myself digital art and eventually freelancing, don't be fooled for a second, while you can arrange your own schedule, learn at your own pace and there's a lot of flexibility, it's incredibly hard, because there's no guidance, there's no one pushing you to reach the next level, everything comes from your own will to improve, thus you can slack like a motherfucker and simply get stuck.I've come to realize that's exactly one of my main issues.I've tried to get formal education, not fine art bullshit, where you will learn little useful techniques to actually work in the field (I already did that), but my particular circumstances preclude me to do so, specifically living in a country where you're

Traditional Tuesdays #40Welcome to edition 40 of Traditional Tuesdays. This week, like all of the other weeks, I'll be featuringfifteen works of art from the Traditional Gallery. Any more than that might and you might loss interest or it could cause your monitor to fail in an explosion of awesomeness. I would feel guilty if that were to happen, so I'm keeping it at fifteen! The Traditional gallery is a vast storeroom of work that covers many mediums and genres. I've tried to show a good mix of artwork, but I don't have room for them all. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!**WARNING:Viewing these works of art may cause giddiness, elevated heart rates, andhappiness in the pants(which could lead to blindness)! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!** :t
An Open Letter for API DevelopersOriginal here! To the dedicated staff of deviantART,As time goes on and the innovators rise to the top, the way we process, create, and use the world around us changes. When deviantART was young and just starting to grow, the internet was only starting to gain its popularity and it was certain that social networks were a really new construct. In the last 12 and a half years, all that has changed. dA has grown to world-wide recognition and fame and continues to push innovators to their limits. The way we use the internet has also vastly changed. In the early years, it wasn't uncommon for people to have a dial-up connection and consider an hour online to be a long time. Now, people are constantly connected to the internet, at home with their laptops in front of the TV, at work when their bosses aren't looking, even on the go with their mobile phones and tablets. To not have a mobile phone that connects to the internet is to face scorn from your peers.A year ago,
dA BrandingJust wanting to expand a bit on `lost-angle's journal about personal branding on dA. I have thought about changing my username as well but decided that as you all know me as Pickley and it is what I use on nearly every other site that I'd stick to it.Branding yourself personally is a hard thing to do, but over my time on dA, I've realized people grow accustomed to your username being what it was when they first met you and grew to know you.Pickley as a name is who I am on deviantART, it lets people remember my name quickly and find me. With some random crappy name such as xxFurryBronyxx, no one would know who I am and would just mock me due to the immaturity of the name.Getting a semi-mature name along with acting mature is a great way to be remembered on dA. Along with a great name, your work also comes into play. People link your work with your nam
BHBI have to say, though, I think !Fuhrer-Glasses kind of had it comming. He's an inflammatory ass, and took the BHB to this avoidable conclusion, something I'm a little annoyed at him for, because the group itself was pretty decent outside of its more unfortunate aspects.I'm to understand that the other BHB admins also got banned, apparently for being members of the BHB admninistration. http://sawmuchded.tumblr.com/post/21732246145/so-i-just-noticed-that-you-got-banned-from-da-what-theThe thing is, I also used to be a BHB admin. Now, I don't do the kind of things the BHB (usually erroneously) were accused of. It would be my hope that I wouldn't have also found myself being told I needed an attitude adjustment, especially given I would often have discussions with !Fuhrer-Glasses over my disagreement of his methods.I don't know what, if anything, the other admins actually did. I realise I'm not neccesarily in posession of all the facts.Given that, I try to have faith that when
